Five things to plan before the Christmas surprise

A playset for Christmas starts with a few practical decisions: where it will go, how your children will use it, and what it will take to have it ready. This checklist will help you plan.
1. Measure the space
Check the full required play area for each model, including the clearances around swings and slides. The playset’s footprint alone won’t tell you whether it fits.
Take measurements and a few photos of your yard. Review the model’s installation instructions for placement, site preparation, and surfacing requirements.
2. Choose how they’ll play
Think about what your children enjoy most at the playground. Swings, climbing features, and slides can help you narrow the options to the ones your family will use.
Check age, weight, and use recommendations for the model and its accessories. Make a short list of must-have features, and confirm compatibility before adding extras.
3. Budget for the whole project
Include the playset, site preparation, appropriate surfacing, and assembly. Check delivery charges, taxes, and the cost of any accessories so you can compare complete projects.
Consider ongoing care as well. Congo playsets use polymer-coated lumber to reduce upkeep such as sanding, staining, and painting. Follow the care and inspection instructions for your chosen model.
4. Confirm delivery and installation
Ask about current availability and estimated delivery for your model and location before ordering. If you plan to use an installer, confirm their schedule separately.
Work backward from your target date, allowing time for site preparation, receiving and checking the shipment, assembly, and final checks. Leave room for weather or scheduling changes. Holiday timing must be confirmed for your order.
5. Keep the reveal simple
A clue under the tree or a card inviting everyone outside can be enough. Complete assembly and the manufacturer’s required checks before children use the playset.
If installation is planned for later, wrap a picture of the playset and make planning the backyard part of the gift. There’s no need to rush the setup for the surprise.
